Enterprise Expands Into the Faroe Islands to Support Growing Tourism Market

The Brands Will Be Available at Vágar Airport Beginning June 1

Enterprise Holdings, the world’s largest vehicle rental and mobility provider, has announced that its Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands will be available in the Faroe Islands from June 1 with the opening of a new branch at Vágar Airport.

The new airport branch will support the anticipated growth in the number of tourists visiting the Faroe Islands as post-pandemic travel resumes with a wide range of vehicles in addition to award-winning customer service.

The launch is the result of a joint venture between Enterprise Holdings, Shared Mobility A/S and Faroe Islands-based Volkswagen dealership Bilasølan.

Named on Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel list 2021, the Faroe Islands welcomed more than 375,000 passengers traveling through Vágar Airport in 2018. Tourism had been growing at around 10 percent per year before the start of the pandemic.

Enterprise operates in more than 45 countries in the EMEA region and in excess of 90 countries worldwide, often through partnerships with local providers that have a strong reputation for customer service excellence.

The agreement will enable the new venture to draw on Enterprise Holdings’ global expertise, resources and technologies to expand its reach throughout the Faroe Islands and grow its rental car business.

"Our expansion into the Faroe Islands is another milestone in our goal to bring mobility solutions to our customers everywhere they live, work and travel," Enterprise Holdings Vice President of Global Franchising Peter Smith said.

"The Faroe Islands is a small community with beautiful landscapes that attract thousands of tourists every year, and the numbers of foreign visitors are increasing as travel resumes.

"A car is often the easiest way to get around remote areas of outstanding natural beauty. Most of the islands are connected by roads, bridges and subsea tunnels so we offer a variety of vehicles for travelers looking for freedom and flexibility to explore, and of course, the global brand they know and trust.

"We are delighted to be deepening our relationship with Shared Mobility A/S and also to be partnering with Bilasølan on this venture. These are both mobility specialists with a strong customer service ethos and detailed knowledge of motoring in the Faroe Islands and across Scandinavia. The partnership will ensure our customers will continue to enjoy our world-renowned culture of customer service."

"We are excited to be joining ventures with Bilasølan and extending our partnership with Enterprise to officially launch in the Faroe Islands," Shared Mobility A/S CEO Nikolaj Lagoni said. "As we take this next step in building the Enterprise, National and Alamo business in Scandinavia, we bring with us a combined expertise and focus on customer care that is consistent wherever our customers travel with us."

In response to COVID-19, Enterprise introduced its Complete Clean Pledge to enhance how vehicles are thoroughly cleaned between each rental. This includes washing, vacuuming and sanitizing with a disinfectant that meets leading health authority requirements, with particular attention to more than 20 high-touch points.

Our expansion into the Faroe Islands is another milestone in our goal to bring mobility solutions to our customers everywhere they live, work and travel.
