In this ongoing series of “Five Questions” blogs, we ask five questions of various members of the leadership team to get their perspective on the business. This time, we spoke with Michele M., Vice President of Airport Business Development.

What’s been the key to success when it comes to growth for our airport business over the past several years? What opportunities lie ahead?

Airport business has grown in the last three years and we have three distinct brands to meet our customers’ varying needs. And, we have a team of employees committed to exceptional customer service which drives customer loyalty.

For future opportunities, we’re excited to continue to bring new enhancements to our business. We constantly think about how we may need to adapt our customer offerings to remain competitive. That is how initiatives such as the self-service kiosks and Emerald Checkout came to fruition.

What challenges does airport business face?

While revenue has grown, the space we have in our airport facilities has not. So we’re often faced with logistic challenges. Our team is always thinking through how we can most efficiently get the right car to the right person at the right time.

What are your thoughts on leadership, and what advice would you give to new managers?

Don’t be afraid to jump in. And while you take that leap, don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions. The great thing is there are many tenured employees at our airport locations who are a great resource. It’s a great development opportunity to learn from those who have been in the business for many years. It’s the Enterprise spirit to pay it forward, and you’ll find that questions are welcomed.

Tell us about your Enterprise career path.

I have been with the company for 25 years, all at the airport, but not all with Enterprise. I started at the counter with Value Rent A Car. When they decided to close Value, I transitioned into a role for National Car Rental. In 2007 Vanguard was purchased by Enterprise, and I moved to St. Louis as the AVP of Airport Business Development. In 2013 I was promoted to VP of Airport Business Development.

What’s something people might not know about you?

I’m a born and raised Floridian – I hate the cold weather! And, I stay true to my Florida roots by cheering for the Miami Dolphins.
